Gaithersburg 101: Local Government Made Easy
A Bold, Engaging Local Government Infographic
Understanding how local government works shouldn’t be complicated. That’s why I designed Gaithersburg 101: Local Government Made Easy, a local government infographic that breaks down key facts, government structure, and civic engagement in a fun, accessible way. Inspired by children’s educational books, this design turns complex municipal processes into a visually engaging experience that encourages community participation.
I used Gaithersburg’s official branding colors—greens and blues—to reflect the city’s identity, complemented by yellow, orange, and pink accents for contrast and energy. The abstract yet expressive illustrations showcase Gaithersburg’s diverse population, reinforcing its status as the most ethnically diverse small city in the U.S. Thoughtfully arranged icons and structured layouts visually connect government roles, showing how the Mayor, City Council, City Manager, and departments work together and how residents can engage in decision-making.
This local government infographic isn’t just informative—it’s a tool for civic empowerment. Residents can quickly grasp how municipal projects move from idea to reality, how to participate in elections, and where to find opportunities to shape their community. The design encourages engagement by outlining clear steps for attending meetings, serving on committees, and staying informed about city initiatives.
The Gaithersburg 101 infographic was featured in the inGaithersburg magazine, a quarterly publication from the City of Gaithersburg. The magazine shares articles about city programs, local stories, testimonials, and more, and this infographic provided readers with a simplified view of their local government’s structure and how they can get involved.
Whether for local governments, community organizations, or civic engagement campaigns, a local government infographic like this makes complex ideas easy to understand. Strong visual storytelling ensures that important information is accessible to a wide audience, bridging the gap between government and the people it serves.
